We all just got a jolt of raw energy with the arrival of Voodoo Tones new EP, ‘Livin; Ain’t Easy‘. The electrifying new supergroup featuring ex-Headcat guitarist Danny B. Harvey, Stray Cats legend Slim Jim Phantom, and Tiger Army bassist Djordje Stijepovoc. Fronting the lineup is the commanding voice of CM Wolf, known for his powerful presence, previously in The Delta Bombers. Their debut single, the stomping and storming “Livin’ Ain’t Easy,” strolls onto the scene today, heralding the next great chapter in rockabilly and roots music.

A song born from change and reinvention, “Livin’ Ain’t Easy” began as a deeply personal track penned by Wolf following his departure from The Delta Bombers. It was only after Harvey reached out that the song found its full potential.

“I’ve been a fan of Chris Moinichen, aka CM Wolf, since I first heard his voice booming out of a stereo,” Harvey recalls. “He sounded like a cross between Howlin’ Wolf and Elvis Presley—one of the most soulful, rockin’ voices I’d ever heard.”

The collaboration quickly picked up steam. First, they completed “Livin’ Ain’t Easy,” then co-wrote the high-energy “Come On Let’s Dance.” Rounding out their debut EP, they chose two covers that defined their sound: Creedence Clearwater Revival’s moody “Sinister Purpose” and The Doors’ rebellious classic “Break on Through.”

For Harvey, this project also presented the perfect chance to reunite the powerhouse rhythm section of Headcat, his hard-hitting rockabilly trio with Motörhead’s Late great,  Lemmy. Without hesitation, he sent the demos to Slim Jim Phantom and Djordje Stijepovoc. “They both loved what we were doing, and just like that, Voodoo Tones were born!”

It’s a match made in punk rock rhythm & blues heaven—a band that blends the primal pulse of blues with the swagger of rockabilly and the soul of classic rock ‘n’ roll. “I think you’ll agree that CM Wolf is a fresh, exciting voice in this scene, and the Voodoo Tones are the perfect alchemy of blues, rock’n’roll, and rockabilly,” says Harvey. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be part of this EP.”

Harvey simply puts, “To paraphrase Lemmy: ‘We are the Voodoo Tones, and we play Rock’n’Roll!’”

While the band plans to hit the road soon, fans can catch Slim Jim Phantom on tour this spring, including select dates with new wave icon Belouis Some and Cleopatra labelmates Gene Loves Jezebel. Until then, Tune in to Racketeer Radio KFQX turn up “Livin’ Ain’t Easy,” and let the revival begin!
