New Yorks’ The Jukebox Romantics have unveiled their latest single and music video, “Packing Up My Knives,” an original track featured in the micro horror film Meat Lovers, which is currently making its rounds in festival showings. The collaboration, which merges the worlds of punk rock and horror cinema, stems from long-time friendships within the punk community and represents a unique venture for the band.
Frontman Mike Terry (vocals/guitar) shared how the project came to life: “The punk scene is tight-knit, and we’ve met some amazing people along the way. In summer 2023, we were approached by Allen Martindale, director and writer of Meat Lovers, to create a song for the film.” Martindale, along with his partner Jess, who is a producer on the film, had connected with the band during Warped Tour in 2010. Their shared love of horror movies led to this creative collaboration.
Inspired by a fusion of The Misfits and Alkaline Trio, “Packing Up My Knives“ is the result of a year-long process, with the band writing and recording the track to match the film’s horror-comedy vibe. The music video, set in a creepy basement filled with pizza and suspense, features scenes from Meat Lovers itself. “It’s our second horror-themed music video,” Terry noted, “but we aren’t a horror band. We just love the genre.”
The song and video drop alongside the film’s festival debut, bringing a blend of eerie fun and punk rock energy. This project comes ahead of even bigger things for The Jukebox Romantics, who are currently recording their fifth studio album with long-time producer John Naclerio (My Chemical Romance, The Ataris, CJ Ramone). The band is excited to continue touring and releasing new music.
Since their debut in 2009, The Jukebox Romantics have built a name with their in-your-face, heartfelt punk rock, influenced by bands like The Bouncing Souls and Blink-182. Known for their energetic live shows and relentless touring schedule, they’ve played at major festivals such as Gainesville’s Fest, Vans Warped Tour, and SXSW.
The band’s lineup—Mike Terry (guitar/vocals), AJ Chiarella (guitar/vocals), James Macdonald (bass/vocals), and Mike “Norm” Normann (drums)—is now tighter than ever after transforming into a four-piece in 2020. Their latest release, the split LP Blood In The Water, showcased the band’s evolved sound and continued to fuel their presence in the US, UK, and European punk scenes.
Fans can stream “Packing Up My Knives“ now and catch The Jukebox Romantics as they hit the road again in 2024 before heading to NADA Studios to record their new album later this year.
With new music on the horizon and more horror-inspired projects under their belts, The Jukebox Romantics remain a band to watch, delivering heartfelt punk rock with a thrilling twist.
