Streetlight Manifesto has officially announced the release of their forthcoming album, The Place Behind The Stars. The band shared the news via their Instagram account, stating:
“Hello. Our new album is called The Place Behind The Stars. It will be released on June 24 by the Pentimento Music Co. We recorded it ourselves, as usual, and hope you will enjoy placing it inside your ears. Thank you, that is all for now.”
This announcement marks the band’s first full-length studio album since 2013’s The Hands That Thieve, ending a 12-year hiatus from new releases. Fans have eagerly anticipated new material and this revelation has been met with widespread enthusiasm.
Formed in 2002 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Streetlight Manifesto quickly established themselves as a formidable force in the ska-punk scene. The band’s inception was spearheaded by Tomas Kalnoky, former lead vocalist and guitarist of Catch 22. Kalnoky, along with a group of talented musicians, aimed to create a sound that blended intricate horn sections with punk energy and thoughtful lyrics.
Their debut album, Everything Goes Numb, was released on August 26, 2003, under Victory Records. The album received critical acclaim and solidified the band’s reputation for musical complexity and lyrical depth. In 2006, Streetlight Manifesto undertook a unique project by re-recording Keasbey Nights, an album originally released by Catch 22 in 1998. This decision was driven by a desire to present the material with improved production quality and to reclaim artistic control.
The band’s third studio album, Somewhere in the Between, arrived in 2007, further showcasing their evolution and maturity as artists. This was followed by 99 Songs of Revolution: Vol. 1 in 2010, a collection of cover songs that paid homage to various artists and genres.
Their most recent studio album prior to the upcoming release was The Hands That Thieve in 2013. Following this, the band focused primarily on touring and live performances, maintaining a dedicated fanbase despite the absence of new studio recordings.
The announcement of The Place Behind The Stars has ignited excitement among fans. Given the band’s history of self-recording, as noted in their Instagram post, expectations are high for a production that stays true to their signature sound while potentially exploring new musical territories.
As the June 24 release date approaches, the music community eagerly awaits what promises to be a significant addition to Streetlight Manifesto’s distinguished discography. Along with this summers release, Streetlight will be in Denver for the three-day event brought to you by Punk in the Park.
