The Linda Lindas Announce New Album, ‘Obligation’ & New Single, ‘All in My Head’

By Ace Hartmann | Racketeer Broadcast Association  |

The Linda Lindas have officially announced their highly anticipated second album, No Obligation, set to release on October 11th via Epitaph Records. The announcement is accompanied by the launch of their latest single, “All In My Head,” along with a reality-altering, psychedelic music video directed by James Wyatt.

Lucia de la Garza, who wrote and sings on the new track, describes it as having “the most indie vibes we’ve leaned into so far because it was written on an acoustic guitar.” She adds, “Recording it was really fun, full of lots of dancing in the studio. I wrote ‘All In My Head,’ from the perspective of a book character, which kinda brought us out of our comfort zone.” The inspiration came from the book My Year of Rest and Relaxation, which Lucia read while on tour last summer. “It felt like a break from reality, which we don’t usually find ourselves writing about,” she notes.

No Obligation is the band’s second full-length release and represents an evolution in their sound. The album continues their energetic blend of L.A. punk, post-punk, garage rock, power pop, new wave, and rock en español. Written and recorded during school breaks and weekends, the album reflects the young band’s dedication and passion. Lucia and bassist Eloise Wong are still in high school, drummer Mila de la Garza just finished middle school, and guitarist Bela Salazar is waiting for her bandmates to finish school.

The opening track, also titled “No Obligation,” sets the tone with Eloise’s powerful roar, “I don’t got no obligation, just brush off all expectation.” From this first moment, it’s clear that The Linda Lindas are here to defy expectations and challenge norms.

The Linda Lindas first captured global attention with their LA Public Library performance of “Racist, Sexist Boy,” which went viral. Since then, they have continued to address social issues and share their experiences through their music. Their latest album promises a continued evolution in their songwriting and performance while staying true to their original ethos.

The band previously teased the new album with tracks like the anxiety-filled “Too Many Things” and the scorching “Revolution / Resolution.” Each of the four members contributes to the writing and lead vocals, ensuring a dynamic and varied listening experience that reflects their shared worldview and bond.

The Linda Lindas have had an extraordinary year, marked by numerous high-profile performances and collaborations. They recently opened for The Rolling Stones at So-Fi Stadium in Los Angeles and will soon join Green Day on The Saviors Tour, celebrating the anniversaries of Green Day’s iconic albums Dookie and American Idiot. The tour, which also features Rancid and Smashing Pumpkins, kicks off on July 29 in Washington, DC, and includes stops in NYC, Chicago, Austin, LA, San Francisco, and more. The Linda Lindas will also be playing headline shows throughout the tour.

In addition to touring, the band appeared on The Talking Heads Stop Making Sense tribute album and performed their version of “Found A Job” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. They’ve also supported Blondie, The Breeders, and Paramore on their This is Why tour and played at major festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Boston Calling.

The Linda Lindas’ debut album, Growing Up, released in 2022, received widespread critical acclaim. The New York Times called it “a combination of wholesome and fierce,” and Pitchfork hailed it as “the most heartwarming record of the year.” Following its release, the band performed on numerous TV shows including The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CBS Mornings, Tiny Desk, and James Corden. They have also been featured in Vogue, W Magazine, The New York Times, and in fashion campaigns for Opening Ceremony and Rodarte.

With No Obligation, The Linda Lindas are poised to further cement their place in the music world. Pre-orders for the album are available now, and fans can watch the new music video for “All In My Head” below
