INFORMATION PLEASE

Monday - Friday at 06:00 AM PST

Information Please is an radio quiz show, created by Dan Golenpaul, which aired on NBC from May 17, 1938, to April 22, 1951. The title was the contemporary phrase used to request from telephone operators what was then called "information" and later called "directory assistance". The series was moderated by Clifton Fadiman. A panel of experts would attempt to answer questions submitted by listeners. For the first few shows, a listener was paid $2 for a question that was used, and $5 more if the experts could not answer it correctly. When the show got its first sponsor (Canada Dry), the total amounts were increased to $5 and $10 respectively. A complete Encyclopædia Britannica was later added to the prize for questions that stumped the panel. The amounts rose to $10 and $25 when Lucky Strike took over sponsorship of the program.

EARL NIGHTINGALE: THE DIRECT LINE

Monday - Friday at 06:30 AM PST

Earl Nightingale V (March 12, 1921 – March 25, 1989) was an American radio speaker and author, dealing mostly with the subjects of human character development, motivation, and meaningful existence.[1] He was the voice during the early 1950s of Sky King, the hero of a radio adventure series, and was a WGN radio program host from 1950 to 1956.[2] Nightingale was the author of The Strangest Secret, which economist Terry Savage has termed "…one of the great motivational books of all time."[3] Known as the “Dean of Personal Development,” Earl Nightingale broadcast his radio programs for more than three decades on over 1,000 radio stations in twelve countries around the world, making him one of the most listened-to broadcasters in history. An inductee into both the Radio Hall of Fame and the International Speakers Hall of Fame and a winner of the prestigious Golden Gavel Award, he dedicated his life to helping others achieve personal success, co-founding Nightingale-Conant, a world leader in personal development. Combining his personal insight with wisdom from the greatest minds in history—from the ancient Greek philosophers to contemporary thought leaders—he provides original and creative commentaries on life and the ways of successful living. BELIVE IT OR NOT

Monday - Friday at 07:00 AM PST

Tales of the absurd and bizarre made their way to the airwaves through this strange and eccentric old time radio series. Ripley's Believe It or Not starred non other than Robert Ripley himself as he shared his out-of-this-world discoveries and experiences while traveling around the globe. His standard practice was to take note of the unusual sights and practices he came across during his travels and chronicled them in his journal. It was not until 1930 that the program was made available to a public audience. Hear audio scripts from his journal while we play the best music for your morning!

SHELLAC STACK

Wednesday at 04:00 PM PST

"I’ve been collecting 78 rpm records for most of my life. Something about these heavy, scratchy old discs caught my ear when I was a kid and I’ve been fascinated by them ever since. In this digital age of heavily-produced music that involves layering and piecing together snippets of sound recorded on multiple tracks over days, weeks, or months, then tweaking pitches and rhythms to create a “perfect” performance that never existed, there’s something refreshing to me about placing the needle in the groove of a 78 rpm record and listening to a musical performance captured in a single, uninterrupted “take” by talented musicians working side-by-side. Essentially, each disc offers one or two studio-recorded “live performances” that allow me to appreciate completely the talent of the musicians; I never have to wonder if what I’m really enjoying are the mixing and editing skills of a nameless engineer.
