Rex Tycoon – ‘No Limit 2 Luv’ is a Love-Infused Revelation

In a world that often feels like it’s tearing itself apart, Rex Tycoon offers one thing: uncompromising belief in love. Their debut full-length, No Limit 2 Luv, releases August 1 via Smartpunk Records and delivers just that—power-pop exuberance laced with punk grit and an unshakeable emotional core.

Behind the album’s polished production lies six years of basement recording. The band—composed of vocalist-guitarist Austin Reesman, guitarist Joey Tiberio, bassist and synth player Keith Tucker, and drummer Jared Stalker—cut their teeth in Pittsburgh living rooms before traveling to Bloomington, IN to record with producer Damion Schiralli at the legendary Russian Recording studio. The result: a sound that expands their rough-hewn roots into stadium-sized ambition while never losing its kinetic energy.

Across ten tracks, Rex Tycoon captures everything from messy drink-heavy basements to lonely drives under neon streetlights, each tune a snapshot of love’s many facets: its beauty, its mystique, the pain it inflicts, and the miracle in its endurance.

Rex Tycoon themselves describe No Limit 2 Luv as “our official opening statement to the world.” For them, the album isn’t just another release—it’s an emotional lifeline and a mission. “The world is cruel and feels mind‑numbingly hard to be a part of these days,” the band explains, “and sometimes it feels like the love we have for each other is all that we have left to hold on to”.

Loyalty to storytelling shines strongest in the album closer, “Jesus Drives.” With bluesy urgency and rough-hammer honesty, Reesman gives voice to the working-class struggle—conjuring the drudgery and dignity of folks just trying to survive in an unforgiving economy. It’s rock as empathy, and as rage-confirmed reality.

Smartpunk Records—once known solely for reissuing out-of-print punk gems—launched as a label in 2016 and has steadily built a reputation for blending nostalgia with forward-reaching ambition. Past titles include classics from Less Than Jake, The Swellers, and RIVALS. With Rex Tycoon added to their roster, Smartpunk signals its commitment to releasing fresh, melodic punk energy alongside its archival work.

The lead-up has already produced singles like “Jesus Drives” and other teasers anchored by garage-tested sound and heartfelt urgencyAnd for fans of bands like Hüsker Dü, Lou Reed, and The Modern Lovers—Rex Tycoon offers a next-generation blend of punk’s raw spirit with pop’s melodic openness.

No Limit 2 Luv doesn’t arrive gently. It crashes in with guitars churning, rhythms pushing, and lyrics rooted deeply in real people and real love. Above all, it reminds us that even when everything else fails, connection might be the only thing worth holding onto.
