Philadelphia Punk Band The Bad Ups Drop New Single “Ego Trip” Ahead of Debut Album ‘Life of Sin’

By Ace Hartmann | Racketeer Broadcast Association  |

Rising punk band The Bad Ups have just released their electrifying new single “Ego Trip,” a track that sets the stage for their upcoming full-length album Life of Sin, due out on September 27 via Jump Start Records. The four-piece band, known for their intense energy and genre-blending sound, continues to make waves in the punk scene with this latest offering.

Frontman Travis McKayle describes “Ego Trip” as a deeply personal song about self-discovery and staying true to oneself. “‘Ego Trip’ is about finding your place in the world while staying true to yourself,” McKayle explains. The track is a fast-paced, gritty anthem that resonates with anyone navigating the complexities of identity and belonging.

Drawing heavy inspiration from the influential punk bands of the 90s and early 2000s, particularly those on Epitaph and Fat Wreck Chords, The Bad Ups have crafted a sound that pays homage to their roots while also embracing the rhythms of traditional ska and reggae. Channeling the spirit of punk legends like Bad Brains, they seamlessly blend these genres, creating a unique and powerful sound that sets them apart in the contemporary punk landscape.

The band’s name, The Bad Ups, is a nod to McKayle’s Jamaican heritage, deriving from the Caribbean patois term “baddup,” which means to treat someone poorly or violently. This name reflects not only their intense musical style but also their deep connection to the cultural roots of the term.

Since their formation in 2018, The Bad Ups have quickly gained a dedicated following, sharing stages with punk icons such as Face to Face, The Bouncing Souls, The Adicts, and Street Dogs. Their versatile sound, which bridges punk subcultures from ska to oi, has made them a sought-after act for a wide range of audiences.

With the release of Life of Sin on the horizon, The Bad Ups are gearing up for an extensive national and international tour to promote their debut LP. Fans can expect a high-energy live experience that showcases the band’s raw talent and dynamic stage presence.
