StrateJacket - Rising from Pandemic Setbacks to Punk Stardom

February 11, 2024

StrateJacket Release First Single from Edgeout Records, 'Bad Start'

Hailing from California's Bay Area, the spirited alt-rock trio StrateJacket embodies resilience in the face of adversity. Formed in 2019 by singer-guitarist Jackson Roemers, bassist Fabian Angel, and drummer Nate Mangold, the band's journey has been fraught with challenges from the outset. Just as they were gaining momentum, the pandemic struck, halting their progress before it could truly begin. However, rather than succumbing to defeat, these early twenty-somethings persevered, refining their craft and forging a distinctive sound that blends their diverse musical influences.

Drawing inspiration from an eclectic mix of artists including The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys, Led Zeppelin, and Blink-182, StrateJacket channels their collective energy into creating catchy, fast-paced anthems that resonate with audiences. Despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic, the band adopted a guerrilla approach to performing, staging impromptu shows in unconventional venues across San Francisco. This grassroots approach not only cultivated a loyal following but also captured the attention of EDGEOUT Records, leading to a record deal in 2021.

In November 2022, StrateJacket entered Vancouver's Armoury Studios to record their debut album under the guidance of Juno/BMI-winning producer Brian Howes (known for his work with Hinder, Skillet, and Boys Like Girls). The Grammy Award-winning Chris Lord-Alge (renowned for his collaborations with Green Day, Muse, and Prince) was enlisted to mix the record, ensuring a polished and professional sound.

One of the standout tracks from the album, "Bad Start," serves as a poignant reflection on the band's journey thus far. Penned during the uncertainty of 2020, the song encapsulates Roemers' introspective musings on overcoming obstacles and forging ahead despite setbacks. With its infectious hooks and anthemic chorus, "Bad Start" captures the angst and resilience synonymous with the Bay Area punk scene that has long inspired the band.

Roemers reflects on the genesis of the song, noting its evolution from a personal expression of frustration to a rallying cry for perseverance. Despite initial reservations about including "Bad Start" on the album, the overwhelmingly positive response from audiences solidified its place as the title track. Furthermore, the song's inclusion in EA Sports NHL 2024 video game further underscores its impact and resonance beyond the music scene.

As StrateJacket prepares to unleash their debut album upon the world, they stand as a testament to the power of perseverance and the resilience of the human spirit. With their infectious energy and unwavering determination, they are poised to make a lasting impression on the alt-rock landscape, proving that even the most challenging of beginnings can lead to triumph.
