Reverend Horton Heat has released their rendition of Motorhead's iconic song "Ace of Spades" on Fun-Guy Records. The track, which has recently become a mainstay in their live performances, is eagerly anticipated by fans.

Reverend Horton Heat, led by frontman Jim Heath, has a longstanding connection with Motorhead's legendary lead singer and bassist, Lemmy Kilmister. Reflecting on their relationship, Heath shared, “Lemmy was always at our L.A. and Hollywood shows, which was really flattering for us. That friendship eventually led to us recording with him, having him join us onstage for a tour, and even a North American tour with Motorhead.”

Heath recounted a memorable interaction with Lemmy during their tour rehearsals. “I asked him if we were going to play ‘Ace of Spades.’ Lemmy, in his gruff English accent, said, ‘No, we won’t be doing that song!’ I insisted, saying, ‘C’mon Lemmy, “Ace of Spades” is probably your biggest song; that’s just giving the people what they want!’ Lemmy responded, ‘Never give them what they want, give them what they need!’” Heath laughed, adding, “Looking back, I still don’t think I understand what he was talking about!” But we had worked up the song already – we knew it. So, we would play it sometimes with friends sitting in and singing, then I just decided one day that I would sing it. Now, it has become a staple of our set, so we decided to record it.

In April 2024, the band, featuring Jimbo Wallace on bass and Jonathan Jeter on drums, entered Empire Sound in theAceofSpades cover.jpg (218 KB) Dallas area to record "Ace of Spades." Their version is a high-energy, fast-paced tribute that retains the essence of the original while incorporating Reverend Horton Heat's distinctive style. Heath remarked, “We kind of morphed our approach more toward a metal type of feel, but it’s obviously still us. It’s fun. It’s all about fun.”

In March 2024 The Reverend Horton Heat had a two-night stint at Seattles' Triple Door, as 'The Stars Align Tour', Featuring Reverend Horton Heat, Dale Watson and Jason D. Williams, traveled through the West Coast. The Rev. is on tour now with The Surfrajettes. Tickets and the full schedule of upcoming Reverend Horton Heat shows are available here
