September 14, 2023

Eli Paperboy Reed Releases, 'Hits & Misses' this Autumn

Eli Paperboy Reed, that venterated progenitor of all things Soul, R&B and Americana, announced his upcoming release,'Hits and Misses: The Singles' available October 20th from Yep Roc Records. Featuring songs that were previously only available as 45 rpm singles at the merch table during Reed’s international tours,  this 11-track remastered collection features vividly reimagined covers spanning every genre as well as a trio of originals not on any album

Reed stated about the new release, saying, ""Sometimes it pays when things don’t work out. From time to time, I get asked to do things for movies, television, and commercials. In this instance, I was asked to put my spin on Steely Dan’s “Do It Again.” My concept (inspired by the sounds of my friend Nick Waterhouse) came fast. I took my Brooklyn crew into my favorite all-analog studio at the time, Stockholm Street Sound and we got to work. The powers that be, however, didn’t like it. I knew, however, that my friend, the legendary Soul DJ of WFMU’s Downtown Soulville, Mr. Finewine, would love it. What I didn’t know was that he would love it so much as to put it out on a 45, a 45 which sold out almost immediately!"

Now eight albums deep in a nearly two-decade career, the earliest tracks on Hits And Misses were cut in 2009, following Reed’s career-launching album, Roll With You, and the latest in 2020, just before the release of his critically acclaimed album of Merle Haggard songs, Down Every Road.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Reed spent much of his teens and twenties immersing himself in the juke joint culture of the Mississippi Delta and playing organ and piano in the Chicago church of famed gospel singer Mitty Collier. A series of studio albums earned widespread critical acclaim, with NPR hailing his music as “inspired, raw and powerful,” and Uncut lauding its “urgent, electric energy.”

Eli Paperboy Reed will be in Brooklyn NY on October 14th and then heading to the Pacigic Northwest on the 19th playing Alaska, Montana and Seattle. Eli Paperboy Reed will make his stop at the Edmonds Performaing Arts Center in Seattle October 19th.  Get all dates and ticket links on our Racketeer Radio KFQX Seattle Concert Calendar
