In The Know:

Hailing from the suburbs of Essex, RAT BOY has been raising the roof with their unique blend of anarchic punk, ska, and hip-hop since their inception. Fronted by Jordan Cardy, RAT BOY’s explosive sound has evolved with every release, leading up to their highly anticipated third album SUBURBIA CALLING, set to drop on October 4th. The album has already sparked excitement with singles like “BAD MAN,” “ONE IN A MILLION,” and the title track, showcasing the band’s strongest visuals and boldest statements yet.

RAT BOY has enjoyed extensive support from influential platforms such as Ska Punk Daily, Chris Hawkins at BBC 6 Music, and publications like Clash, New Noise, Rock Sound, Soundsphere, and The Line of Best Fit. Their latest single, “SHE’S THE ONE,” marks a distinct departure from their usual sound, embracing breezy, 1960s-inspired guitar pop with influences from The Kinks and a laid-back mod vibe. It also represents a new chapter in Jordan Cardy’s life, as the song is his first love song, inspired by his marriage in 2022.

Originally a solo project by Cardy, RAT BOY soon transformed into a full band with the addition of Liam Haygarth (bass), Harry Todd (guitar), and Noah Booth (drums). Their debut album SCUM hit the UK Top 15, blending DIY hip-hop roots with a mix of hardcore punk and big beat. But RAT BOY has never been a band to take the obvious route. For their follow-up, INTERNATIONALLY UNKNOWN, they teamed up with punk legend Tim Armstrong of Operation Ivy and Rancid to push their sound into aggro-punk territory. This led to tours with ska-punk icons The Interrupters and syncs in projects like the Cyberpunk 2077 video game soundtrack and the British breakdancing film Break Point.

In 2023, the band returned to their roots in Chelmsford, Essex, drawing inspiration from their home county for SUBURBIA CALLING. This new project leans heavily into British influences and showcases a collaboration with Blur and The Smiths producer Stephen Street. Together, they crafted high-energy tracks that speak to the struggles and stories of suburban life, giving local tales a global stage. With SUBURBIA CALLING, RAT BOY is set to break out once again, proving that their voice is one of the most vital in modern punk music.
