Racketeer Radio KFQX The New Golden Age of Radio
For fans of classic 90s melodic punk, California’s own Carry the 9 has delivered another compelling track. The band officially released their third new single of the year, “Empty Walls,” on Friday, June 27, 2025. The song dives deep into the emotional landscape of a relationship’s end and the challenging, yet ultimately hopeful, journey of starting anew.
“Empty Walls” showcases Carry the 9’s signature sound, steeped in the influences of beloved punk stalwarts like Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Pulley, Rise Against, Good Riddance, and NOFX. It’s a sound that resonates with anyone who grew up with the skate-punk anthems of the 90s, blending infectious melodies with heartfelt lyrical content.
The band’s story is one of rekindled friendships and a shared passion for punk rock. Carry the 9 officially formed in late 2018 when Kevin Levins (vocals and guitar) and Sean Wilburn (drums and vocals) found themselves living near each other again after two decades. Their initial jamming sessions quickly evolved into serious songwriting, leading them to recruit bassist Jose Wright via a Craigslist ad. The lineup was solidified in late 2019 with the addition of Jeremy Rich (guitar and vocals), a childhood friend of Sean’s. Jose also contributes his signature “Let’s Go’s” to the band’s energetic live performances. Since their formation, Carry the 9 has become a familiar presence on the Central Coast of California, playing numerous shows and even venturing to other locales, spreading their authentic punk sound.
“Empty Walls” is one of four new tracks recorded by Kevin Thayer at Tantrum Recordings in California. These songs represent a significant step for the band, as they were expertly mixed by the renowned producer/engineer Cameron Webb, whose impressive credits include work with iconic bands such as Social Distortion, Motorhead, Strung Out, NOFX, and Lagwagon – a true testament to Carry the 9’s commitment to their craft and sound.
These four new singles are all slated for release throughout 2025 and will culminate in an upcoming EP titled “A Loner, A Rebel.” The first single from this new batch, “Roots,” was released earlier this year in February, setting a high bar for the subsequent releases.
With “Empty Walls,” Carry the 9 continues to carve out their niche, offering a fresh yet nostalgic sound that appeals to both long-time punk enthusiasts and new listeners alike. Tune in to “Empty Walls” now and prepare for the full impact of their forthcoming EP, ‘A Loner, A Rebel.’
