Legendary Arizona punk rock band Authority Zero is celebrating their 30th anniversary with a brand-new EP, Thirty Years: Speaking to the Youth, set to release on November 1st. The six-song collection marks a significant milestone for the band that began as high school kids in Mesa, Arizona. Their lead single, “Lights Out,” is already available, and the band has just dropped a companion music video to accompany the track.
Frontman Jason DeVore describes the EP as a powerful reflection of both the past and the future. “It’s essentially about believing in yourself and fighting for what you believe in, whatever that may be,” DeVore explains. The EP’s themes are rooted in the band’s signature energetic style, but the lyrics offer a personal look at life’s journey, touching on both its highs and lows. “If there’s something you love and feel a strong conviction about, don’t be afraid to stand up, speak about it, and fight for it,” DeVore adds.
The members of Authority Zero — DeVore, bassist Mike Spero, guitarist Brandon Landelius, and drummer Chris Dalley — spent a week in Arizona writing the EP, their first release since 2021’s Ollie Ollie Oxen Free. They then teamed up with producer Cameron Webb, who has worked with them on previous albums such as Ollie Ollie Oxen Free and The Tipping Point, to record the new material in Santa Ana, California.
DeVore notes that the EP is deeply reflective, saying, “It’s us talking to ourselves as kids in a way, and the future generations both present day and to come.” With a combination of gritty, raw punk rock and a sense of introspection, Thirty Years: Speaking to the Youth encapsulates everything fans have come to love about Authority Zero while looking forward to the future.
Authority Zero’s ability to remain relevant after three decades is a testament to their message and their unwavering dedication to the punk rock ethos. As DeVore puts it, this EP is about embracing the moment and the journey, good or bad. “We’re still here, still speaking to the youth, and still fighting for what we believe in.”
Fans can look forward to the full release of the EP on November 1st, but until then, the electrifying energy of “Lights Out” offers a preview of what’s to come.

Tales of the absurd and bizarre made their way to the airwaves through this strange and eccentric old time radio series. Ripley's Believe It or Not starred non other than Robert Ripley himself as he shared his out-of-this-world discoveries and experiences while traveling around the globe. His standard practice was to take note of the unusual sights and practices he came across during his travels and chronicled them in his journal. It was not until 1930 that the program was made available to a public audience. Hear audio scripts from his journal while we play the best music for your morning!
