Alkaline Trio Release New Double Single “The Sacrifice” and “At Sickness”

By Ace Hartmann | Racketeer Broadcast Association  |

Alkaline Trio fans are in for a treat as the band releases two previously unheard tracks, “The Sacrifice” and “At Sickness,” as a digital double A-side single. The release comes on the heels of their most recent album, Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs, and represents a return to the band’s earlier, raw sound.

The new singles reflect the band’s “back to basics” approach, reminiscent of their earlier material. “The Sacrifice” channels the dark, passionate energy found in their Good Mourning era, featuring tight production and melodic hooks. In contrast, “At Sickness” leans into the emo-pop choruses and morbid lyricism that characterized Agony & Irony. Whether fans favor the brooding intensity of Good Mourning or the emotionally charged vibe of Agony & Irony, these tracks offer a nostalgic yet fresh experience, making them a standout later-career outing for the band.

Guitarist and vocalist Matt Skiba shed light on the release, explaining, “Both ‘At Sickness’ and ‘The Sacrifice’ were initially written and recorded for our Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs album, and leaving them off the record wasn’t an easy decision. It was done merely in the interest of the full-length’s running time, which we wanted to keep under 40 minutes. We’re psyched that these two numbers are being released and will be available on their own special format, no less.”

In addition to the digital release, the band will be releasing a limited edition 7” vinyl of the two singles on October 18th. The vinyl, available in two variants, will be sold exclusively through the band’s website and Rise Records. Skiba expressed the band’s excitement for this special release, noting, “Putting out an EP on 7” vinyl is something we haven’t had the opportunity to do for a long time, so having two new songs to offer up on such a classic format is fun for us as vinyl enthusiasts.”

Alkaline Trio has been on a relentless tour schedule since the release of Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs on January 26, 2024, their first album on Rise Records and their tenth overall. The tour has seen the band performing to some of the largest and most enthusiastic crowds in Europe, with Skiba, bassist/vocalist Dan Andriano, and drummer Atom Willard in top form. Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs Tour picks back up Sept. 11 in San Antonio Texas at the Aztec Theatre with some east coast dates before the band heads to Australia in November.

The new songs from Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs have been seamlessly integrated into their setlists, alongside classics and deep cuts from albums like Agony & Irony, Crimson, Good Mourning, From Here to Infirmary, Maybe I’ll Catch Fire, and Goddamnit.
