The Punk Rock Museum Hosts First Annual Punk Rock Tattoo Expo and Winston Smith Art Show

The Punk Rock Museum is gearing up to host a truly unique art and music experience, the first annual Punk Rock Tattoo Expo. This three-day event, from June 21st to 23rd, promises a vibrant blend of art, music, drinks, and museum exhibitions, all under one roof at the home of the Punk Rock Museum, at 1422 Western Ave. in Las Vegas

The Punk Rock Tattoo Expo will run from 12 PM to 10 PM each day, featuring some of the world’s most renowned tattoo artists. Attendees can meet or get tattooed by legendary figures such as Tokyo Hiro, Oliver Peck, Bob Tyrrell, Alexandra Fische, Greg Christian, Durb Morrison, Shaun Kama, Jimmy Utah, Ruthless, Big Island Mike, and KJ.

Integral brands and suppliers in the tattooing industry, including Tattoo Heritage Project, Inkeeze, Intenze Ink, TatSoul, Art Noir, Critical Power Supply, Bishop Rotary, True Tattoo Supply, Europe’s Best Brands Tattoo Supply, and LTD Lighting, will also be participating in the event.

A special discounted general admission price of $25 will be offered during the expo, welcoming all ages to experience the event, although only those 18 and over can get tattooed. The festivities will kick off with a public party on June 21st from 8 PM to 2 AM, featuring live music from the museum’s house band, Punk Tribute Authority (PTA).

In addition to the tattoo expo, The Punk Rock Museum will host an art show titled “Been Wrong So Long It Looks Like Right to Me,” showcasing the surreal and satirical collages of punk-surrealist Winston Smith. The exhibit, featuring approximately 100 original pieces, will open on June 15th and run until August 12th.

The opening party for the Winston Smith art show will take place on June 15th from 8 PM to 10 PM and is free to the public. The event, presented by Laurel Canyon Spirits and Bryan Ray Turcotte, will offer exclusive merchandise such as T-shirts, tote bags, and limited edition prints.

Winston Smith has been crafting provocative collage art since the 1970s when he returned after nearly seven years abroad and was astonished by the complacency of the American public toward the role of corporate enterprise.  He took the “happy” icons of the 1940s magazine ads and created political art that challenges the viewer to confront the political paradoxes of modern society.

Since 1980, his collaborations with Dead Kennedys became widely known and his art beloved for its humorous social commentary.  The “DK” logo that Smith designed for the band remains the international symbol of protest against authoritarianism. His album covers, inserts and flyers served as a beacon for burgeoning political artists.

Smith’s art has been on over 50 album covers for recording artists Green Day, Burning Brides, Ben Harper, Jello Biafra, George Carlin and many more.
