Hold onto your rosary beads, folks, because Teen Mortgage is cashing in on chaos with their debut full-length, Devil Ultrasonic Dream, dropping April 11 via Roadrunner Records. The two-man wrecking crew, known for shaking the rafters of the Mid-Atlantic scene, is turning up the heat—and we mean literal fire. Their latest single, Party, arrives in a blaze of glory, accompanied by a D’ana Bugs-directed video straight from the underworld. With a ghoulish audience and a JBTV-styled spectacle, it’s a high-voltage hellscape you won’t want to miss.
Teen Mortgage’s frontman, James Guile, isn’t just here to thrash—he’s here to torch the status quo. Devil Ultrasonic Dream taps into the dark underbelly of the 1980s Satanic Panic, a time when rock and roll was the supposed highway to hell. And with America teetering on the edge of a new theocratic crackdown, Guile isn’t pulling punches: “This album is about realizing a fantasy that Christian fascists don’t understand or want you to have. The devil—Satan—has always been a symbol of counterculture.”
The album’s latest single single, Party, if it is any indication, we’re all about to be caught in the crossfire of a sonic exorcism.
And as if one unholy announcement wasn’t enough, the duo is hitting the road for a 26-city crusade across the U.S. Kicking off in Richmond, VA, on April 8, the trek will rip through Atlanta, Los Angeles (where demand has already warranted a second show), San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Detroit, New York, and more before a grand finale in Baltimore on May 17. With Babe Haven, Spoon Benders, and Upchuck joining on select dates, it’s shaping up to be one of the most riotous punk tours of the year.
For the uninitiated, Teen Mortgage is a punk-rock time bomb that’s been ticking for years. Originally from England, Guile bounced between aliases before finding his groove stateside. Enter drummer Edward Barakauskas, a former ER nurse whose beats hit harder than a defibrillator at full charge. The duo forged their sound in the belly of the DMV underground, churning out anthems built for the mosh pit. Through a global pandemic, frontline shifts, and a string of blistering releases, they clawed their way up to a 2024 deal with Roadrunner Records. Their resume? Stacked. We’re talking gigs with Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, OFF!, Alkaline Trio, Hotline TNT, Die Spitz, and Wine Lips.
In short, this ain’t your grandmother’s punk rock—unless, of course, she was front row at a Black Flag show in ‘83. Tickets to the tour are hotter than a preacher’s collar in August, so get ‘em while they last. Devil Ultrasonic Dream is primed to set the punk world ablaze. And if Teen Mortgage is making a deal with the devil, well, let’s just say we’re all about to be under new management.
