Racketeer Radio KFQX The New Golden Age of Radio
For over 25 years, The Riptides have been a punk rock staple, delivering high-energy, melody-infused anthems straight out of Ottawa, Ontario. Now, they’re cranking the volume up to eleven with their latest full-length release, Burn After Listening, Now available via Pirates Press Records. This marks a new chapter for the band as they take their infectious brand of pop-punk to a global audience.
Earlier this year Racketeer Radio KFQX had got sent their first single, ‘End of the World‘ which gave us an inside look of what was to come from ‘Burn After Listening‘ and the single is a perfect introduction to the new album. Now with the album officially released and a second single, ‘My Hearts Tattooed on My Sleeve‘ accompanying the album release, Racketeer Radio KFQX is now spinning the latest from The Riptides
Originally formed in 1998, The Riptides hit the ground running, crafting a DIY ethos that saw them building their own studio and label to support both their own releases and those of fellow Ottawa bands. Their relentless work ethic and signature sound quickly caught fire beyond Canadian borders, especially in the U.S., where they soon embraced the challenge of recording in legendary American studios. Burn After Listening continues that tradition, recorded at none other than The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado.
With Andrew Berlin steering the tracking process and Jason Livermore refining the final master, The Riptides have solidified a record brimming with blistering energy and undeniable hooks. The sessions also played host to an impressive lineup of guest musicians, including members of Teenage Bottlerocket, All-American Rejects, Screeching Weasel, and The Queers. Adding even more firepower, Pirates Press Records artist Matt DeeCRACK lent his songwriting chops to several tracks, making this album a punk rock powerhouse.
As always, The Riptides deliver an electrifying mix of driving downstroke riffs, catchy-as-hell choruses, and an aesthetic that blends their love of nerdy pop culture with the raw spirit of punk rock. But don’t expect a one-note album. Frontman Bob Goblin assures that Burn After Listening delivers the perfect balance of aggression and melody:
“We’ve always loved fast, aggressive songs, but never shied away from the poppier stuff either. I can’t stand boring records where every song sounds exactly the same from top to bottom.”
For longtime fans, the DNA of past records runs deep in this one, while fresh ears will find an
undeniable introduction to the band’s signature style.
With Burn After Listening poised to reach new heights, The Riptides are ready to spread their sound farther than ever before. Whether you’re a diehard fan or a newcomer looking for your next punk obsession, this album is a must-listen.
