THE RELEASE OF THE INJUSTICE OF JUSTICE: A MOLLY CRABAPPLE & KEITH LAMAR SHORT FILM ANIMATION

Today, January 13, 2025, marks a sobering milestone: just two years remain until Keith LaMar’s scheduled execution date. Keith, a wrongfully-convicted Black man, has spent over three decades in solitary confinement after being framed and sentenced to death in the aftermath of the 1993 Lucasville Prison Uprising at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. Now, as time becomes critical, Keith and his supporters are rallying to shine a light on his case and fight for his life.

Keith’s story is a harrowing testament to systemic injustice. His conviction was marred by prosecutorial misconduct, including the withholding of exculpatory evidence and the exclusion of all Black jurors from his trial. Despite these egregious violations, Keith has continued to proclaim his innocence while enduring the inhumane conditions of solitary confinement. His powerful memoir, Condemned, chronicles his ordeal and offers a compelling argument for justice.

In a bold and creative effort to raise awareness, Keith has teamed up with world-renowned artist Molly Crabapple to produce a short animation that vividly portrays the betrayal and injustice of his case. This poignant collaboration is designed to engage viewers and mobilize action.

Keith’s message is clear: “If I must go, it won’t be without a fight. I won’t go silently into that dark night. Join me. Stand with me.”

Full Message from Kieth Lamar:

“With today marking two years until my proposed execution date, as time once again becomes a critical factor, we have found a poignant and powerful way to tell and share my story. I hope you will join me in this effort. You have in your hand a gripping portrayal of the betrayal that is my case, facts and figures that can (and have) been substantiated by the record. Please use whatever means are at your disposal to help me get the word out, to help raise resources and awareness to elevate my plight. If I must go, it won’t be without a fight. I won’t go silently into that dark night. Join me. Stand with me.” –KL
